The Most SURPRISING Opening Day Performance in Cardinals HISTORY | Tim Van Galder (1972 Cardinals)

In 1972, the St. Louis Cardinals made the somewhat surprising decision to start quarterback Tim Van Galder on opening day against the Baltimore Colts, despite the fact that Van Galder had never played a snap in the NFL before, despite the fact that Van Galder had done nothing since getting drafted all the way back in 1966, and despite the fact that the Colts had the number one ranked pass defense in football in 1971. 1972 Week 1: Tim Van Galder's first NFL start

Tim Van Galder completes 10-15 passes for 110 yards as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Johnny Unitas and the Baltimore Colts 10-3 at Memorial Stadium.
